Charity project

ARCHEMED

ARCHEMED – Ärzte für Kinder in Not is a charitable association founded in the summer of 2010. Its field of activity is in Eritrea. Many employees of the association have a working experience of many years in the poor country at the Red Sea.

The aim of ARCHEMED is the medical and humanitarian help for ill children in Eritrea. Their doctors and nurses are working selflessly. They are helping bedside at the children’s clinics, operate at the international surgery center for children at the capital city Asmara, run special ambulances for chronic children’s diseases and train local professional staff.

4days 2020/2023 in Lörrach is supporting the perinatal center in Keren, Eritrea – our monetary contribution will be accompanied by several voluntary workers, among which are two craftsmen from Lörrach and medical and origanizational support by a fellow rotarian near Lörrach.

World Bicycle Relief

World Bicycle Relief makes people with bicycles mobile. WBR helps people to overcome distances in order to become independent and to bring their lives forward by their own power.

THE CHALLENGE: For millions of people in developing countries, their own feet are the only means of transport. Long distances in rural areas make daily trips to school or work, a visit to a hospital or the transportation of goods difficult or even insurmountable challenges.

The SOLUTION: World Bicycle Relief produces specially designed, robust and locally assembled bicycles. Within the framework of various programs, they are made available to students* and carers. In the local communities WBR trains mechanics who maintain the bikes and thus ensure the sustainability of the programs.

World Bicycle Relief makes people, their families and entire communities mobile with bicycles and thus promotes development.
With bicycles, pupils* in rural areas can reach schools, which are often far away, faster and in time. Education is the best foundation stone for the way out of poverty. Long distances to school and domestic duties deny many girls access to education. Bicycles help them to graduate and get closer to their dreams.
For health care workers, bicycles shorten travel times and they can serve more people in remote regions. This benefits the health of entire communities.
Buffalo bicycles increase transport capacity: Farmers and entrepreneurs can transport more goods and save valuable time.

The 4days 2020/2023 in Lörrach support the work of World Bicycle Relief. Rotary and World Bicycle Relief are deeply committed to providing service to others, and they are teaming up to mobilize individuals and communities through The Power of Bicycles!

For just € 147, WBR can donate a brand new, reliable bicycle to a student fighting for her education, a Community Health Volunteer overcoming rugged terrain to see more patients, and a farmer transporting more produce from farm to market to increase their capacity and earn more income. While so many of us see biking as a hobby and a fun activity, for individuals across the world, it is a tool for cultural and economic empowerment.
